Fire Chief

Topsham (pop. 9,200) is seeking an experienced, innovative individual as our next Fire Chief, to lead a force of 50 volunteer and per diem firefighter/EMTs, along with a full-time Deputy and firefighter, with an $840,000 budget. We offer an excellent working environment in a great community with a well-trained and dedicated staff.

Applicants should have a minimum ten years of local government experience in Fire and Emergency Services, with at least five at the management level. An Associate's Degree in Fire Science or equivalent is required (Bachelor's is preferred). Advanced EMT certification required, paramedic certification preferred. Fire Inspection Certification preferred.

The position has a high community profile, working closely with agencies, groups and residents on fire safety and prevention. The ability to communicate and make public presentations required. Advanced Fire/EMS leadership knowledge and skills, supervision, budgeting, grant administration and incident management, and a ME driver's license are required.

The Salary range is $60,000 to $75,000, DOEQ, and includes an excellent benefits package.

Applicants must possess a valid drive's license, be currently licensed as a Maine AEMT or Paramedic and Firefighter I & II certified. Leading candidates for this position will be required to successfully pass an in-depth background check and pre-employment (medical) examinations.

All candidates will be required to undergo the Bath Fire Department physical agility test. Candidates that successfully pass the agility test will move on to the written test. (A CPAT will not be accepted). The written exam and physical agility test will take place on 8/12/17 at the Bath Regional Career and Technical Center.

Fire Administrator Position

The Town of Harpswell is seeking applicants for Fire Administrator, a new full-time position (minimum of 37.5 hours per week) with benefits, responsible for managing the Town's municipal firefighter program in support of the three volunteer associations in Harpswell. The successful candidate will be expected to manage the program to ensure daytime coverage shifts are filled. The Fire Administrator will also be expected to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with the three volunteer associations in support of their services, training and recruitment efforts. In addition, the Fire Administrator will be required to cover a minimum of two firefighter shifts per week while managing the program, and to take on the duties of the Fire Warden and eventually those of the Emergency Management Agent.

Interested candidates should possess a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of three to five years of related experience in administration and firefighting; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. An Associate's Degree or two-year college certificate is preferred. Compensation will be dependent upon experience and qualifications. The position requires a minimum of Maine Fire Training & Education Firefighter I Certification or equivalent training. A valid drive's license will be required and either satisfactory completion of Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) or a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
