Captain/Shift Supervisor

The City of Bath is seeking applications from interested persons for the position described below. All interested applicants should obtain an application packet which outlines the expectation of the candidate from the City of Bath Clerk's Office.

Captain/Shift Supervisor Salary Range: Benefits eligible position with a starting wage of $25.86 per hour.
Work Schedule: 24/72

As shift officer supervises all subordinates. In the absence of the Fire Chief, all personnel are subject to his/her command.

Supervises shift crew in their assigned duties as directed.

Duties may include, as directed by Fire Chief: Inspection, Public Education, and Emergency Medical and Training programs. This includes all administrative functions of these programs: planning, researching, developing, reporting, evaluating, organizing, conduct training or public education programs. The Captain will carry out duties in conformance with Federal, State, County and City laws and ordinances.

Supervises maintenance of departmental equipment, supplies and facilities.

Acts as Fire Chief in Chief's absence.

Responds to alarms, directs equipment and crews at emergency, acts as Incident Commander until relieved by Fire Chief or transfers command to an equal or higher ranking Department officer. Contacts and summons needed resources, logs and completes all paperwork and documentation pertaining to emergency calls on his/her duty tour.

Conducts research and prepares a variety of reports and records including personnel records, and requisitions. Assist the Chief with development of standard operating procedures and guidelines and departmental policies. Performs other related duties as required.

Fire Administrator Position

The Town of Harpswell is seeking applicants for Fire Administrator, a new full-time position (minimum of 37.5 hours per week) with benefits, responsible for managing the Town's municipal firefighter program in support of the three volunteer associations in Harpswell. The successful candidate will be expected to manage the program to ensure daytime coverage shifts are filled. The Fire Administrator will also be expected to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with the three volunteer associations in support of their services, training and recruitment efforts. In addition, the Fire Administrator will be required to cover a minimum of two firefighter shifts per week while managing the program, and to take on the duties of the Fire Warden and eventually those of the Emergency Management Agent.

Interested candidates should possess a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of three to five years of related experience in administration and firefighting; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. An Associate's Degree or two-year college certificate is preferred. Compensation will be dependent upon experience and qualifications. The position requires a minimum of Maine Fire Training & Education Firefighter I Certification or equivalent training. A valid drive's license will be required and either satisfactory completion of Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) or a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
